Research Abstract |
The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the extent of the establishment and practice of the National Music Standards (1994) in the United States. To accomplish this purpose the following research questions were investigated : 1. What were the National Standards in relation to : (a) historical background in American education system? (b) the National Standards and the Course of Study in Japan? 2. To what extent can the National Standards influences be observed in American music education since? As a result of this study the following conclusions were reached : 1) The National Standards has tended to be the interdisciplinary and integrated curriculum in school curricula. 2) It is developmental curriculum of music education as aesthetic education. 3) It includes the contents of Multicultural education in relation to contexts. 4) It emphasizes not only arts education but also understanding relationship between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
