Research Abstract |
Our research plans were developed for this year, 1999, based on our research findings obtained in the previous year. Two oversee investigation teams were made ; one for North America, the other for Oceania, and each team investigated the sports-related events and organizations in the assigned countries. In the North America study, the research team visited the office of Special Olympics where an international governing body for sports promotion for the disabled is located, and various interview data and some related materials were obtained through direct meeting with staff working for the office. In total, one hundred fifty countries were enrolled and one million people were involved in some sort of activities initiated by the organization. In addition, the investigation team visited the American National Senior Games held in Orlando, Florida. The site of the game was Disney Sport Center in Disney World, and this event was supported by a number of volunteers who registred in advance. I
