Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to develop a highly reliable and long-life power system using solar-cell panels and electrolytic double layer capacitors(EDLC), and to improve the characteristics of a high-frequency switching power converter utilized for charging and discharging EDLCs. For the previous two years, we developed a non-contact deterioration-detection system for EDLCs, where the value of an equivalent series resistance(ESR) of an EDLC was estimated. Furthermore, we improved the characteristics of DC-DC converters utilized as chargers and dischargers for EDLCs by introducing the soft-switching technique and the synchronous rectification. During this year term, we fabricated a clean-energy-source power system composed of solar-cell panels, EDLCs, and the bi-directional flyback DC-DC converter, and utilized a Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC)for controlling the switchover between charging and discharging modes in order to respond the output-power variation of the solar panels. As a result, its good controllability was confirmed experimentally.
