Research Abstract

Recent development in the field of genetic and molecular technology has remarkably increased the knowledge on the mechanisms of the brain development. However, experimental approach to mammalian brain has been with much difficulty, because mammalian embryos develop in mother's uterus. To overcome this problem, we have developed the technique of the intrauteral surgery of mouse embryos.
Mice of 11 and 12 days of pregnancy was laparotomised and the adenovirus vector bearing Lac Z were demonstrated using x-gal staining. X-gal-positive cells were localized in the choroid plexus and a migrating rout from the rhombic lip to the cerebellar surface. These results indicate that the intrauteral surgery combined with adenovirus vector is useful tool to investigate the mechanisms underlying mammalian brain development.
