| Research Abstract |
(1) Ascribed the north-south differences in population dynamics in India to differences in the death and the birth rates, which were in turn affected by economic condition and social status of women, respectively.
(2) Provided evidence that the incidence of crop shifting was greater in Pakistan than in India, and more noticeable after the 1950s.
(3) Provided new interpretation that figures of industrialization in Chinese mainland overestimates the actual economic performance.
(4) Compiled time-series international trade statistics of Asia using the international standard commodity classification.
(5) Computed purchasing power parity in East Asia in the 1930s, on the basis of which real consumption levels of Japan and Taiwan at that time were 40 and 80 percent higher, respectively, than that in Korea.
(6) Assembled and tabulated time-series monetary statistics of Thailand after WWII.
(7) Pointed out, on the basis of examination of monetary statistics, possible differences in the functions of markets in prewar Southeast Asia as compared with those in East Asia.
(8) Suggested relevance of effective demand in the Indian economy after her independence, which however received little attention due to emphasis on economic planning by leading economists and politicians.
(9) Examined the implications to sustainable economic growth of structural reforms in East Asia after WWII.
(10) Suggested a new method of comparative economic history of Asia with the use of macro economic statistics.
(11) Has compiled historical national account statistics of Taiwan in the 20th century.
(12) Has engaged in the compilation of historical national account statistics of Korea in the 19th and the 20th century.
