Research Abstract |
This study has explored important issues concerning Intra-Khoisan language contact by examining a case of the contact between the two Khoisan languages, |Gui (a Khoe family language) and !Xoo (a Southern Khoisan language). Data used for this study are latest lexicons of these languages, which are compiled by myself (for |Gui) and Anthony Traill (for !Xoo). A careful and detailed lexical comparison and analyzes of dialectological researches of the two languages have brought new findings and interpretations about the language contact history of |Gui and !Xoo. Part of the result of this investigation has already published as Traill & Nakagawa (2000) (see Section 11. REFEREMCERS).
