Research Abstract

To elucidate the relationship between factors of disease development control and physiological status of host cells in the pine wilt disease, reactions between pine wood nematode and pine host cells were examined.
(1) Susceptible hosts to pine wilt disease decrease their surface tension with the development of disease.
(2) Surfactants and oxalic acid increase after infection of pine wood nematode.
These substances induce cavitation in the living pine wood.
(3) The disease development has a close relation with ethylene production in the living wood.
(4) Incidence ofcavitation induces the decrease of wood moisture content in the living wood.
(5) Decrease of oligosaccharide by antiphotosynthesis treatments is considered to have a close relationship with disease development.
From the results, black boxes in disease development of pine wilt disease was made clear in connection with cavitaion.
