Research Abstract |
Although many types of jaw movement analyzing systems have been developed, analyzed results from different systems cannot be compared directly because of differences of base planes or reference points. This kind of luck of interchangeability makes it difficult to accumulate research results and to create the evidence for evaluating stomatognathic function. The purpose of this research was to develop a new stomatognathic function database and establish reference values for evaluating stomatognathic functions In this research, we investigated about information of subjects to register on the database, the standard file format of j aw movements data and analyzing parameters that were independent of measuring systems and could be intercompared among different systems To collect jaw movement data from different systems, we adopted an ASCII sequential format, locus data of jaw movements expressed with three dimensional coordinates (X, Y, Z), those output were could be exported from most of meas

uring systems without any modification of analyzing software. Before registering those data on the database, we processed them with custom software that was developed to convert collected data into standardized formatted jaw movement data. This standard format of jaw movement data made it easy to develop analyzing software that could process jaw movement data from different systems. Then we developed the DBMS (Database Management System) on Microsoft ACCESS2000. At the same time, we also investigated analyzing parameters. It is absolutely essential to establish parameters and reference values that are independent of analyzing systems in order to accumulate research findings. Using these kinds of parameters, measured data from different systems can be evaluated in a uniform manner and used in database to establish reference values of jaw function. Those reference values could be a basic knowledge of the evidence Results of this research were presented in domestic and international meetings and published in many scientific journals Less
