Research Abstract |
In the course of the project Imanaka visited various institutes in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia which are engaged in scientific researches about the Chernobyl NPP accident: three times in 2000, two times in 2001 and two times in 2002. Through the discussion with scientists who are studying Chernobyl, Imanaka found a lot of interesting works and asked them to prepare special papers for this project. Twenty two papers together with one by Imanaka were published in a technical report, KURRI-KR-79 (July 2002). It is appreciated as a unique collection of Chernobyl papers concerning various aspects of the accident. On the basis of discussion and materials obtained through the project, Imanaka published several papers about Chernobyl accident concerning such aspects as the assessment of external dose to inhabitants evacuated from the 30km zone, the process of nuclear excursion of the Chernoby1-4 reactor, the real nature of the explosion that destroyed the reactor etc. In addition protocols of the special group, which was formed just after the accident in the central committee of the Communist Party of USSR to cope with the consequences by the accident, were translated from Russian to Japanese.
