Research Abstract |
We have investigated the non-Fermi liquid behavior in CeRu4Sb12 at low temperatures and preparation of high quality single crystals of Sm-based compounds. We have measured the specific heat and electrical resistivity and clarified that CeRu4Sb12 is near ferromagnetic instability. The non-Fermi liquid behavior at low temperatures is ascribed to the quantum critical phenomena. We have done high resolution photoemission study and revealed that the density of state at the Fermi energy decreases at low temperatures and hence CeRu4Sb12 belongs to Kondo semimetal. We have succeeded preparations of high quality single crystals of SmFe4P12 and shown that the compound is Kondo-lattice system with a ferromagnetic ground state. It is known that few compounds exhibit a ferromagnetism and SmFe4P12 is the first Sm-based heavy fermion system with a ferromagnetic ground state. We also succeeded preparations of small single crystals of SmRu4P12 and SmOs4P12 but it requires larger specimen to measure physical properties.
