Research Abstract |
We have investigated a many-body disk model of slip phenomena. In the many-body disk model of slip phenomena, the particles between the slip surfaces are modeled as a many-body disks in 2 dimension. The model experiments of the many-body disk model of slip phenomena have been carried out. The experiments demonstrated that the model could reproduce the stick-slip events that were typical phenomena in slip. We showed that the time series of the torque has 1/f fluctuation. We also showed that the size distribution of stick-slip events obeyed the power law. The experiments were carried out with changing the number of disk layers and packing fractions. As a result, the model showed scaling properties in time, space and magnitude dimensions. This indicates that the many-body disk model of slip phenomena is one of the typical example of self-organized criticality. The stress measurement system by photo-elasticity was developed in order to monitor the stress distribution in a many body disk system. By using the stress measurement system, dynamical change of stress distribution during the experiment of the many-body disk model of slip phenomena was investigated. We found the relation between the time series of the torque and local behavior of disks.
