Research Abstract |
In high voltage aerial distribution systems, a compound insulation system exists in insulated wire supporting points. When the lightning strike occurs in their neighborhood, a lightning surge is induced to the central line of the wire. If the flashover of insulator happens by the lightning surge, the creeping discharge can develop along the wire surface. Then, the distribution lines are exposed to danger of the wire melting failure. In order to prevent this accident, the elucidation of the creeping discharge is very important. However, its property remain largely unknown. We investigated the property of creeping discharge which develops along the wire surface under the impulse voltage application with various peak values and duration of wave fronts. It has been clarified as follows. 1. Positive ceeeping discharge (1)Length The length does not influenced by the duration of wave front. It increases with the peak value of applied impulse voltage. (2)Aspect Its aspect does not influenced by the duration of wave front and the peak value of applied impulse voltage. It develops along the wire surface with jumping. 2. Negative creeping discharge (1)Length In the standard lightning impulse, the length increases at 30 to 50kV, decreases at 50 to 90kV and increases again at over 90kV. In the case of duration of wave front 8 μ s, the length increases monotonously with the peak value of applied impulse voltage. (2)Aspect In the standard lightning impulse, it develops with creeping the wire surface at under 50kV. The creeping aspect, jumping like an arc aspect and descreat jumping aspect always appear at over 90kV. The jumping phenomena at the discharge tip restrain with increasing the duration of wave front. The negative creeping discharge is influenced remarkably by the duration of wave fronts.
