Research Abstract |
[Aim] Investigation of problems caused by the handicap of their communication and evaluation of the system on supporting their communication in the stomach X-ray inspection for hearing-impaired people. [Subjects and Methods] 1. Questionnaire study for the investigation of problems among hearing-impaired people in Shiga prefecture. .2. Field examination of the total time required, cumulative X-radiated time, exposed radiation dose, and subjective evaluation of the communication quality in the stomach X-ray inspection. 3. Development and evaluation of the system on supporting communication using the translation device from Japanese voice to the sign language animation. [Results] 1. About 80 % of the respondents have received the stomach X-ray inspection before now. Their common communication methods were only useful for 50 % of the respondents. aring-impaired people than in the non impaired. The risk of radiation exposure against a radiological technologist was apprehended because he often looked at the stomach through a fluoroscope at hearing-impaired cases while the measured exposed doses were same as usual. The hearing-impaired people had good opinions while a radiological technologist felt the difficulty in the communication during the inspection 2. 3. As the results of the subjective evaluation by hearing-impaired people, the improved animation obtained higher rate in comprehensibility than those in the old animation while it did not reach the level of signers' translation in video. The mean rate of the correct answers in the improved animation was 70 % when it was evaluated under the simulation of the inspection, however, a few sentences were not understood at all. Further improvment of the expression power, including the natural and comprehensible expression, adding the situation of the inspection in the animation are issues in the future. Less
