Research Abstract |
I have been involved in several research projects since my arrival to Kobe University. These are in diverse fields of instrumentation, fundamental basic research, and development of applications. Data analysis of previously recorded honey data according to the data analysis procedures of Kobe University Biomeasurement Laboratory (aquaphotomics approach). Research on instrumentation to support chemometric analysis and help band assignment. This is a practical approach in which the identification of signal errors and useful signals is aimed. However, the results provide assistance also for basic science, as it may help precise band assignation. Techniques applicable to enhance signal disorders are collected and introduced on real test data. In addition, results achieved with different types and models of NIR spectrometers are shown and evaluated. Manuscript is under preparation for submission with my first-authorship. Data analysis and redesigned experiment of UV affected DNA research. This is a collaborative study with Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe University. NIR spectra of aqueous solutions of UV irradiated DNA samples were recorded and evaluated. After evaluation, a redesigned experiment was done and newly recorded were analyzed again. It was found that NIR technique and aquaphotomics can detect UV treatment of DNA samples, thus, it can be used to measure the level of damage caused by irradiation.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Estrus detection in dairy cows, using NIR technique. and aquaphotomics. This is a collaborative research with Awaji Agricultural Institute. Two field experiments were prepared and executed throughout 2013. Body surface of hormone treated lactating-dairy cows were scanned for one week, around synchronized estrus period. Also milk and serum samples were collected. NIR spectra acquisition was performed using laboratory and on-farm spectrometers, as well. Data analysis of NIR spectra recorded on body surface or body fluids is aimed to show differences in the period of estrus, in contrast to non-ovulating control cows. Instruments used in Kobe University, Biomeasurement Laboratory : FOSS XDS with various modules FOSS NIRSystems 6500 Brulcer MPA FANTEC NIRGUN FANTEC Fruits Tester APS device JDSU MicroNIR (test device) BioTek Microplate Reader First results of this research were presented at the annual Japanese NIR Forum in Tsukuba, in November 2013. Further analyses are in progress and publications in this topic are expected in the near future.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Data analysis of previously recorded honey data according to the data analysis procedures of Kobe University Biomeasurement Laboratory (aquaphotomics approach). This is a collaborative study with Kaposvar University, Hungary. Unifloral honey samples from different regions were adulterated, and the level of adulteration was monitored using NIR spectroscopy. The amount of added substance was predicted with high accuracy and precision. AquaphOtomics was used to explore the differences in substances. The results of the research provide evidences on the different water structure of the investigated honeys and added adulterant liquid sugar. Manuscript is under preparation for submission with my first-authorship. We are preparing further collaborative studies with Kaposvar University in the field of animal science and food science.
