Research Abstract	ゴマに含まれるセサミンには脳卒中易発症ラット(SHRSP)の血圧上昇を抑制し、脳内の内皮由来一酸化窒素合成酵素の発現を誘導することを既に明らかにした。今回はセサミンがSHRSPの脳卒中発症を抑制するか否かについて検討したところ、0.5%食塩負荷時で明らかな延命効果が認められた。オーストラリアに移民したイタリア人は食習慣の変化に伴って、生活習慣病が増加しているといわれている。今回パイロット研究として、50歳以上のイタリア移民男女26名の血圧測定と問診を行った。収縮期血圧の平均は149+/-3(平均+/-標準誤差)、拡張期血圧の平均は74+/-2であった。先住民族であるアボリジニは長期にわたって乾燥地帯に住んでいたため節約遺伝子を獲得しており、少しの栄養成分を有効に利用することが出来る。現在、この様な人々の食習慣が急激に欧米化するにともなって、生活習慣病が多発している。今回来年度行う予定のフィトケミカルを用いた生活習慣病予防に関する介入試験に向けてのパイロット研究を行った。その結果、35-55歳の男女(男性9、女性15名)の半数が高血圧や糖尿病の治療を受けているかまたは境界域高血圧者であった。さらに、56歳以上では全ての人が何らかの生活習慣病の治療を受けていた。一方、24時間尿を採取した結果、成功者は16名中12名であった。24時間尿中の食塩量は男性(5名)で10.2g+/-0、女性(7名)で8.0g+/-1.3であり、Na/K比はそれぞれ2.2+/-0.3、2.2+/-0.4であった。日本人の1日の平均食塩摂取量が13g前後であることからから考えると彼らの食塩摂取量はそれほど多くないと考えられる。今回の結果から、アボリジニでは生活習慣病の発症が加速しているので、介入試験は若年層を対象にする必要のあることが明らかになった。また、白人とアボリジニとの間に軋櫟があり、介入試験に対する倫理面での許可をどこに求めるかが問題であったが今回の訪問でアボリジニの倫理委員会から疫学調査と介入試験の許可が下りた。
