Research Abstract |
1) Characteristics of the fish fauna of Japan and adjacent waters were shown as 17 areas to be related to marine fishes from the East China Sea and sdjacent waters. 2) Taxonomy of the species of Sebastes Three color morphotypes of Sebastes inermis were analysed both by morphological and molecular methods. As resuts, these three morphotypes of S.' inetmis were three separate species. Two. color morphotypes of Sebastes scythrops were analysed also both by morphological and molecular methods. As resuts, these two morphotypes of S. scythrops were two separate species, and one of he two was described as a new species. 3) Taxonomy of the species of Saurida The species which had been identified as Saurida undosquamis included two different kinds of morphorypes. These two morphotypes were found to be separate species from each other, and one of the two was described as a new species. 4) Taxonomy of the species of Sphyraena Sphyraena pinguis is one of good commercial fishes, but includeded some morphotypes. We recognized these morphotypes as three separate species. based on examining the specimens collected from the Indo-West Pacific. And, one of the three was found to be a new species. 5) Taxonomic studies of other marine fish species Several species, of Paraulops, Girella, Cubiceps, Thamnaconus, and Parapercis were studied taxonomically.
