Research Abstract |
Activities regarding information (such as collecting information) and those of communications (such as contacting to others) are very important among humans' intelligent activities. Assisting these activities totally by computers is eagerly requested. In our research, these intelligent activities are modeled as components of two layers of six basic activities. The first layer is composed of the following three activities collect, create and donate. These can be regarded as states of information life cycles from users' point of view. Information are collected by users, and new information are created based on them. The new information are provided to societies and utilized as future information creation. The second layer is composed of the following three activities relate, collaborate and present. These can be regarded as processes of user-centered communications as well as those in the first layer. In general, a person obtains relations among others, and collaborates with them in orde

r to create new information. Then he presents himself to the society as the source of new information. The above two layers are mutually dependent; when a user collects information and provides them, communication with his partner is required, and when a user communicates with his partners, information about them is necessary. These mutual processes of creating connections and communicating with others can be regarded as a kind of knowledge subjects, which are the target of this research project. In order to achieve the above modeling, the following individual research topics are tackled (1) Finding relations between two different hierarchical information sources by structural and semantic ways, (2) Discovery of Web communities in order to clarify autonomous formulation processes of knowledge subjects, and (3) As a way to implement agents of knowledge subjects, safe procedures available at anytime and anywhere are required. In order to solve this, distributed system framework based on three agents (user interface agent, programmable agents, and service mediator agent) are proposed. Less
