Research Abstract |
This study aims at developing the method of database formation on historical documents of the modern Arabic Script Zone. The Arabic Letter Zone means a cultural world where the Arabic letter is commonly used in different languages, such as Arabic, Persian, and Ottoman Turkish. At first we selected suitable documents for database formation from basic historical documents such as parliament records, official gazettes, collections of laws and regulations, government almanacs, topographies et.al. Then we started to digitalize these documents and to input necessary information of key words in these documents by using their indices and other research sources. Finally for the formation of database we tried to design search system of these key words in Arabic letter. We finished preparatory stages of the formation of database of the Ottoman Official Gazette (takvim-i vegayi') and the Egyptian Parliament Record (madhabit majlis al-nuwwab and madhabit majlis al-shuyukh). Also we constructed a database in pilot version of Ali Mubarak's Khitat (the new Egyptian historical topography), a famous and important historical data source for the study of modern Egyptian history.
