Research Abstract

1)Preparation conditions of carbon nanocoils (CNC) were examined in detail.
(1)The Fe-Ni (10%) and Pd/Pt catalysts supported on molecular Sieves or Al_2O_3 fine powder were the most effective catalysts for the mass production of CNC. (2)The single coils was obtained with high purity using SUS304 metal catalyst which was rubbed on the quartz substrate.
2)The morphology, fine structure and growth mechanism of CNC were examined.
(1)I was observed that the carbon nanocoils with a coil diameter below several ten nm has mainly twisted-form, and spring-like nanocoils could not be obtained in a large amount. (2)Nanocoils was mainly a single coil and the growth mechanism was proposed. (3)The nanocoils have higher crystallinity than that of microcoils. (4)Changing coiling-chirality through a piece of coil was sometimes observed, and the changing mechanism was proposed. (5)The flat coils with flat fiber cross section, those were obtained with applying outer electromagnetic or magnetic waves, were obtained, and the growth mechanism was proposed.
3)Mechanical, electro-magnetic, tactile sensing and hydrogen absorption properties were examined.
(1)The elasticity of the coils wasdecreased by high temperature heat-treatment (2)CNC/PMMA composites absorbed above -20dB the electromagnetic waves of 10-110GHz. (3)CNC/elastic resin show high tactile sensing properties with very high sensing and high discrimination properties. (4)The high hydrogen absorption properties was obtained by disordered CNC.
