| Research Abstract |
Just 10 ears ago before promulgation of 'Gakusei' in the 5th year of Meiji (1872), the Tokugawa shogunate commanded the embassy to Europa in the 2nd year in the Bunkyu (1862) to investigate things of education in Europe. The syogunate commanded the embassy to negotiate with European countries for a treaty, and to investigate the social systems including a political, a military and an educational system. Of course an educational system and a assembly, tax and military system is the most inportant in a modern nation. I made clear in this study for what reason that roju(a member of the Shogun's Council of Elders) had understandings that cognition. I analyzed Gassyukoku-syoshi translated by Koseki Takahiko, Kaikoku-zushi, Eikanshi-ryaku, Chikyusetsu-ryaku, Chiri-zenshi, Renposhi-ryaku, and Eikoku-shi those are translated in classical Chinese.
As a result, I undestand those books include much information about universities enhance the pros-perity of the nations, secondary specialised schools biring up talent for the mining and manufacturing industries developing with the Industrial Revolution, and the system of elementary school for national education. In speciality, it is important that bringing to Japan the information about the national education that is forming in Europe and the Eastern States. Moreover it is important that education reported in Renposhi-ryaku and Eikoku-shi those were written by missionaries of Britain and the United States is recognized as basic system of a modern state. The man noticed this matter early was MITSUKURI Genpo. He was the professes of 'bansyo-shirabesyo' International Geodetic Society and he is the greatest person among studing on Western learning.
I reason MITSUKURI Genpo took part in command to investigate things of education in Europe at the embassy to Europa in the 2nd year in the Bunkyu and I am reserching in that matter now.
