| Research Abstract |
Our Research aimed at elucidating the association of literary genres and various stylistic features in Greek and Roman Classical literary works, and on this basis at investigating and demonstrating particular instances of individual works. We first endeavoured to grasp the state of previous studies by surveying and acquiring academic literature on various descriptive techniques and on individual works. We also investigated each work philologically utilizing editions, commentaries, and CD-Roms for word-search. On these basic investigations, we advanced our research on individual works paying special attention to the relationship between literary genres and stylictic features. e also published the following two articles as our main results and reprinted in the booklet-form report of our research : Y.Oshiba, "Calvus and Catullus (2)-Catullus c.50-" demonstrates, paying attention to the stylistic features, that the poetic ideas of Catullus, who highly respected learning and humour, and the poem itself, which narrates the friendship with his poetic friend, are so composed that their poetic ideas are put into practice. Y.Sano, "Semonides' The Species of Women (fr.7 West) : Comparison with Hesiod's Theogony and Works & Days" investigates the relationship between the iambic poem, The Species of Women, and stylictic features as well as their contents. Through these investigations on individual works, we have demonstrated the actual examples of the association of genres and stylictic features, and have added new perspective to the study on each work. We consider it to be our next task to pay special attention to the critical analysis of the original texts as we continue and develop our studies on literary works with reference to various descriptive techniques.
