Research Abstract |
Fiscal year of 2001(Development at the experimental hall of the NIRS Cyclotron) 1. Increasing the gas sheet density With employing a pulse beam method, the gas sheet density was increased atthe pointi of a pulse rising of molecular beams. Added the nozzle and the skimmer improvement, at the point of 60 cm downstream from the nozzle, thegas sheet density was reached 3 x 10^<-6> torr. In other words, the density was exceeded the aim value of 10^<11> molecules/cc. 2. Experiments ofJisht detection Using proton beams having the current of 5 μA and the energy of 8 MeV, lights from collisions on gases were measured. Comparing species of the gas sheet, N_2, O_2, Aγ and CO_2, it was found N_2 has the best yield of the light among them in visible range. From experiments, it is guessed that with an N_2 gas sheet having a density of 1 x 10^<-5> torr, a beam profile can be measured within the time of one bunch passing in future 50 GeV synchrotron when the beam intensity is 10^<14> proton/pulse as the de

sign value. In near future the detector wiH be Replaced byhigh gain camera having the gain of several ten times than now for more fast detection. Fiscal year of 2002(Development at the NIRS HIMAC-Synchrotron and KEK) 1.Beam orofile measurement using ionization on the gas sheet (HIMAC) In case of the gas sheet density of 7 x 10^<-7> torr, ^<12>C^<6+> beam profiles of the HIMAC synchrotron were successfully measured within the time of one bunch under beam conditions of the energy renge of 6 to 430 MeV/u and the intensity of 2.5 x 10^8 paticles/bunch. 2.Development of a light detection type profile monitor(KEK) New compact size gas sheet generator was fabricated. The gas sheet densit was increased up to 5 x 10^<-6> Torr at the 60 cm downstream from the nozzle. Also detection chamber for light measurement was made. According to the investigation of the light detector considering high radiation field, HARP camera using amorphous selenium as the light target will be employed as a candidate. On August 2003, the whole equipments will be installed in the beam Line of KEK NML, the light experiment will be done as soon as possible. Less
