Research Abstract |
With respect to the biology of tooth movement, it is known that the periodontal ligament change into the hyaline degeneration at the pressure side and osteoclasts do the bone resorption at the area adjacent to the hyalinized periodontal ligament. Recently, osteocytes die via a mechanism that is similar to apoptosis at the first stage of the bone remodeling. It is known that the activated oxygen induced in the ischemia-reperfusion causes the apoptosis. When isolated rat osteocytes were cultured with hydrogen peroxide (H_20_2), there was a dose dependent increase in trypan blue, which is the marker of apoptosis, positive cells. Furthermore, we 'also examine the response of osteocytes in the hypoxic condition. When osteocytes were cultured in the hypoxic condition, there was a dose dependent increase of osteocytes apoptosis. Taken together, hydrogen peroxide and hypoxic condition play an important role of osteocytes apoptosis.
