Research Abstract |
These researches are rounded off as follows ;(1) In Kyushu, many midwives, in no small number are still being actively engaged in the childbirths as their actual services. (2) However, (even though named as maternity hospital on the telephone directory) many of these aged midwives are conducting the education for the younger generation, or giving the pregnant women and nursing mothers the precise advices in answer to their request, or performing the community activity by request of the municipal authorities. (3) At any community, it seems that the relation between the aged midwives and the pregnant women or the nursing mothers is just like as that between parent and child or the relatives, being related with a sense of security and confidence. (4) Such sense of security and confidence seems to be connected to the childbirths in relaxing condition. ed wound might arise because the delivery is to be slowly induced by the midwife. It has become clear that even if the nursing mother's perineum should be lacerated at the time of childbirth, her wound would be so slight as being healed of itself. Watching the development thereafter, the verbal evidence indicates that it is better for the pregnant women to give births to their babies slowly, taking enough time and bearing with pains. Of course, the length of the time depends on the midwives' experience. (6) As to the elderly delivery, many midwives comment that it is almost same as the normal birth and their ability of giving birth is a proof of the vitality. But, they advice that salt should be conservative. (7) As to the demerit of the elderly delivery, there is such a view point as that it is better to understand according to the data (the statistics), while there is another comment that data is not so worth due consideration. (8) There exist some women who gave birth to their children at the ripe age, more than 50 years old, by assistance of these midwives. In case that they got married late in life, they gave birth to their children of their own accord. (9) These exist such midwives who were concerned to the childbirths in the whole district. (10) Many of the midwives are full of confidence with their lively facial expression. All of them are proud of they actually delivered women of children and non of those mothers died. (11) Numbers of childbirths by assistances of these midwives are more than several thousands and or 10000. Their technique, knowledge and wisdom are inestimable. (12) However, it is very regrettable to look at the existing state that such maternity clinics (homes) are decreasing year after year. It seems to me that such existing state will be related to reduction of choice-range of childbirth-places for the expectants. I believe that the continuation of such researches will be beneficial not only for the women who are going to be delivered of children at their ripe age, but also for all pregnant women. Such researches are therefore scheduled to be continued. I could make inquiries directly to 3 aged midwives in Saga prefecture in 2001 (fiscal year) and 17 such midwives (one of them is not the aged) in Oita prefecture in 2002 (fiscal year). In 2003 (fiscal year), the close contacts with such midwives in Miyazaki and Okinawa had been kept. The effects earned by the accumulations of these inquiries are as above mentioned. In Fukuoka prefecture too, I could come into contact with the managing director of the prefectural subdivision. I would like to continue to make such inquires further closely to the aged midwives.
