Research Abstract |
Two years of research term were divided to (1) Experiments on cell performance under dry environment and data acquisition about condensation method for measurement of water vapor in gas stream, (2) Experiments on electro-osmosis under practical operational conditions. (1) Three cases reflecting practical application background were applied to single cell performance measurements. Anode dry, cathode dry, anode and cathode dry, respectively. Threshold of stable and unstable performance was set as the rise of internal resistance. Experimental results were compared with calculated prediction based on the water balance in a cell. Measurement methods of water content of water vapor in gas stream are known as dew point meter and condensation measurement. In our measurements, considering the facts that gas volume is small and long time course measurements are necessary, condensation method was adopted. (2) Oxidation and reduction of hydrogen under DC current does not generate water, but proton transport occurs. Under this reaction, outgases from cathode and anode were cooled and condensed water was collected and weighed. Measurements are still in progress, but preliminary results were obtained. Net electroosmotic coefficient was calculated as 0.21. Separation of electroosmosis and back diffusion from net coefficient is also in progress.
