Research Abstract |
It has been reported that catch and striated muscle myosin heavy chains of scallop are generated through tissue specific alternative splicing. We have found a novel myosin which was specifically expressed in mantle pallial cell layer. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that this myosin is classified as a non-muscle-type myosin. In this study, we isolated a cDNA encoding myosin rod region. The deduced amino acid sequence of an isolated cDNA showed that the sequence had a high identity with that of vertebrate non-muscle myosin and a low identity with those of scallop striated and catch muscle myosins. Interestingly, the rod region of this myosin is shorter than those of other myosins. The secondary structure analysis showed that the C-terminal region shows non-helical tail region, suggesting that this myosin rod is classified as non-muscle myosin. It is interesting whether this myosin is regulated by Ca-binding to regulatory light chain as well as in regulation of scallop muscle myosin. Now, we are trying to identify the light chain components of scallop non-muscle type myosin heavy chain.
