Research Abstract |
・Definition of the outline of the research's structure, objectives, plan, and methodology : ・In the broader context of Japan's contribution to the shaping of postwar Asia, clarify the role that Japan has played since the 1970s in the shaping of Southeast Asia order (in light of structural changes in the region in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and in the growing regional influence of players such as the Soviet Union and China) and, again, in the post-Cold War period (in light of new structural changes like : collapse of Soviet Union, rise of China, and regional concerns about the US' commitment to its role for regional security). ・Initial months of the research to be dedicated to the analysis of primary and secondary sources in Japan and to interviews with relevant people ・Investigation of Japan's role in the shaping of Southeast Asia's order during the Cold War period ・Analysis of declassified documents from Japan's Ministry of Affairs and from foreign sources ・Analysis of oral histories

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
From April 2014, in addition to continuing the same activities described above, I will carry out research abroad (in Asia and possibly in the United States), both in archives and conducting interviews. I am also planning to start writing a paper.
