Research Abstract |
1. Digitalizing of photographic images X-ray radiography, Emissiography, Normal color, Infrared photography, Ultraviolet Fluorescent photography of Christian relics were digitalized. Optical microscopic images of pigments samples from the paintings in the early Meiji era were digitalized. X-ray radiography of the paintings in the early Meiji era possessed by Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music were also digitalized. All of these digitalized images were put in order to be utilized as a common data. 2. Technical examination of cultural properties Technical Examination of Two Pieces of World Atlas by Brown and Fischer in 17th century was conducted with using X-ray radiography, normal color, infrared photography, ultraviolet fluorescent photography to investigate an original material, a technique and an additional material by the restoration. Technical examination of Christian relics was conducted with using X-ray radiography, infrared photography, ultraviolet fluorescent photography, X-ray fluorescence analysis to investigate an original material and a technique. Technical examination of medical instruments produced and imported in Edo period was conducted with using X-ray radiography, infrared photography, ultraviolet fluorescent photography, X-ray fluorescence analysis to investigate an original material and a technique. 3. Investigations in oversea countries Investigations of medals of Christian relics were done at museums and libraries in Italy, Portugal.
