Research Abstract	(可視-近赤外領域) 本研究での目的は、(1)極限的超短パルスの発生、(2)超短パルス特性の新計測法の開発、(3)遷移状態分光法の確立の3点である。 (1)これまで非平行パラメトリック増幅(NOPA)法を用いて、3.9フェムト秒の最短光パルスを発生させて来ているが、新たに開発された広帯域位相整合結晶を用いた広帯域光発生に着手した。また、複数のNOPA装置を組み合わせ位相整合領域を広げることによる超広帯域光発生を試みている。 (2)5フェムト秒以下の超短光パルスでは強度の時間変化だけでなく、その絶対位相を確定することが重要となる。これまでにこの絶対位相をロックした光発生とその計測に成功しているが、さらにこれを進めてレーザー動作の最適化や安定化を図る方法を開発していく。 (3)生体中の視物質であるロドプシンについて、上記の超短光パルスを用いた時間分解分光を行った。光により誘起される構造変化の遷移状態において、分子振動の時間発展を観測できた。 (真空紫外領域)超音速ジェットバルブ、斜入射真空紫外分光器、真空排気装置および電子増倍管などを用いて、高次高調波発生システムを設計・試作した。既に、フェムト秒チタンサファイアレーザー増幅システムの出力を希ガスまたは比較的小さな分子に集光照射し、高次高調波の発生条件の最適化を進めている。高次高調波発生の物理過程を量子力学的に詳細に理解するための数値計算コードの開発に着手した。高次高調波は基本波が直線偏光の時に発生する。従って、基本波として40〜50フェムト秒のパルスを使用してもそのピーク強度付近でのみ直線偏光にすることができれば、アト秒台のパルスを発生できる可能性がある。フェムト秒パルス内の偏光状態の制御によるアト秒パルス発生の具体的な手法(複屈折結晶と波長板を使用した方法並びに空間光変調器を用いる方法)についても検討を加えた。
