Research Abstract |
In this research project, we made researches into and explored the life experiences and needs of persons living with various types of health-related problem in Japan, and developed the theories and methods for/through these researches. 1)In QOL field, we studied on : ・The correlates of strenuous difficulties faced by families bereaved of HIV infected hemophiliacs, ・Social support networks and health-related behaviors among skid row residents with disabilities utilizing social rehabilitation services in Kotobuki, ・Suffering, social support, happiness and hope in invasive mechanical ventilator-dependent ALS patients, ・The effects of social relationships on depression, anxiety and hope in people with rheumatoid arthritis, ・Difficulties at work and correlates of work motivation and depression in workers with inflammatory bowel disease, ・Life-line, difficulties and coping of metastasis and recurrent breast cancer patients, 2)In stress/stigma coping and SOC(Sense of coherence) field, we studied on : ・Stigmatizing situations, coping strategies and their influence on psychological well-being of person living with facial disfigurement, ・Newcomers' mental health and their related psychosocial factors, ・Correlates of low back pain and symptoms of neck, shoulder and arm, and mental health among nursery school teachers in Tokyo ・Effect of SOC on life stress process in middle aged people. 3)Through this project : ・The concept of illness experience, participatory research, and health literacy were introduced in Japan, ・Herth Hope Index(HHI) Japanese version and Perceived Health Competence Scale(PHCS) Japanese version were developed, and the Japanese version of SOC scale was verified.
