Research Abstract |
Economical analysis group analyzed two examples of pioneering projects on environmental community business : business model on newspaper recycling in Fukuoka and business model on recycling of cooking oil in Akita. The former model is an experiment in constructing a community system for coexistence, and the latter one is a trial for constructing energy cycling in a local area in accordance with the benefit of venture companies, which are legally less restricted than public enterprises. Social system group analyzed the development of local communities in Suwa-Tenryu Area by using statistical data and remote sensing techniques (LANDSAT TM). The toll road of "Venus Line", which was constructed 30 years ago, caused development of tourism and increase in gross income, and destruction of grassland and increase in trash and excreta accompanying with the increase of tourists. In addition to the administrative measures, NPO and citizens' cooperation are important for those overuse problems. Natural survey group continued an analysis of material cycling in a branch of the Tenryu River, studied groundwater nitrate pollution along the main channel of the river, and conducted a survey on the size distribution of coastal sands at the mouth of the river. A new quantitative measurement of silicate in river water was established. Photosynthetic pigments and algae composition were analyzed for the sediment cores collected from Lake Suwa. TBT was also analyzed for surface sediment of the entire lake. Emerging time of a chironomid was greatly affected by waterr temperature, and their number showed a decreasing trend in recent years in Lake Suwa. Engineering group analyzed adsorption properties of benzaldehyde on allophane, improved purification systems for toxic substances by using wood chips, and developed a simulation model of groundwater pollution by nitrate.
