Research Abstract

本研究の全体計画について研究分担者間の調整を行った。また本研究に新しく加えたセネガルでの研究を遂行するために、ダカール大学他関係諸機関と研究計画の打ち合わせを行った。以下、研究代表者および研究分担者それぞれの具体的な現地調査の概要を述べる。
堀は、セネガルを中心に乾燥に伴う塩化作用や人口の集中に伴う地表面の環境変化に対する人間対応、Acacia albidaの生態を活かした土地利用の民族知に関する予察的調査を行った。
篠田は、乾燥地域において、土壌水分は環境要素のなかでも特に重要なものであるが、これまでに行われた観測データは限られている。そこで、我々がこれまでに観測した詳細なデータを使って、アフリカのサヘル地域をはじとする乾燥地域に適した簡易な土壌水分モデルの作成を行った。
知念は、ニジェールのニアメイ近郊の小流域において、ガリー侵食によって形成された涸れ川の形態変化と農民の土地利用についての現地調査を行った。また、表層地質調査と、農民の表層地質に関する民族知の体系を理解するための聴き取りも行った。
高岡は、ケニアのメルー県中央部を中心とするケニア山北東麓の斜面において、LANDSAT(TM)画像による土地被覆分類を行い、現地調査で確認・修正を行った。農地に適さない北部サバンナ地域への近年の農地拡大の概況が把握できた。また、前回のエルニーニョによる大雨時(1997-1998年)を含む、過去10年間の農業生産の統計データをロケーションレベルで収集することに努めた。
鹿野は、これまでに行った現地調査で収集した、ケニア北部の牧畜民サンブルの生業変容に関する資料の整理をおこなった。
大山は、ニジェール中南部の調査地に気象観測機器を設置、的確に気候変動を把握する体制を整えることができた。また、農耕民ハウサの農耕様式と牧畜民フラニのウシ移牧に関する民族知とその実践について現地調査を実施した。
