Research Abstract |
In this project each member developed his or her own research according to the specific field. At the same time the members exchanged information actively and organized annual meetings devoted to Neoplatonism. Thus we were able to obtain broad knowledge concerning the neoplatonic concept of man, ranging from Antiquity to Modern Age in Different cultures such an Western Europe, Byzantine and Islam. Such comprehensive study of Neoplatonisum has unparalleled uniqueness, not only in Jpan but also in the world. The specific field of research of each member is as followas. Morimichi Kato studied the concept of man in Renaissance with special emphasis upon Giordano Bruno. Yoshihisa Yamaguchi studied the influence of Plato upon the Aristotelian and Stoic concept of man. Kazuo Okuda studied the Platonic concept of man. Satoshi Horie studied the debate among the concept of man in Late Antiquity. Ippei Matsuzaki studied the Pkatonic background of the Augustinian Confessions. Kazuo Okazaki Studies the Augustinian concept of man. Fumiaki Okazaki studied the concept of man by Proclus. Yoshinobu Obama studied the concept of man among medieval thinkers. Masaki Omori studied the Byzantine concept of man. Shin Nomoto studied the influence of Neoplatonisum ipon the Islamic concept of man. Kenichi Nejime studied the concept of man of Florentine Renaissance. Hiroaki Ito studied the concept of man of Giovanni Pico. Seiichi Yamaguchi studied the concept of man of German Idealism and its Neoplatonic background.
