Research Abstract |
Taking advantage of the advancement of IT, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies hopes to create a more sophisticated Language Education, which is invaluable to the university. The purpose of the present research is to evaluate the probability of applying IT technology to Foreign Language Education as well as revise and improve the quality and contents based on results from Computer and Corpus Linguistics. Finally, we plan to construct a ubiquitous Web environment for pronunciation and conversation training via multimedia. The research report is comprised of four chapters. The contents will be explained as follows. The first chapter deals with the analyses of the monitoring research of some CALL CD textbooks. These results were applied to the syllabus design of the conversation web textbook. The second chapter addresses some fundamental data for developing a cross-linguistic grammar textbook. Basic grammar profiles have been made for French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Chinese and Korean. This chapter also contains some corpus-based linguistic analyses and application to grammar textbooks. Assessment of Web pronunciation textbooks, conversation needs analysis towards students learning Japanese, and development of teachers' manuals of English conversation textbooks make up the third chapter. Finally, the fourth chapter is comprised of reports concerning the state of the art ubiquitous environment and e-Learning at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
