Research Abstract	強い揺らぎのあるプラズマ乱流の統計力学を創始して、統計理論を構築する事を目指している。特に本研究では、乱流遷移の確率統計理論に重点を置いている。プラズマで分岐現象がある場合には、新しい未知の物理を開拓できる重要な方法論となる。初年度として、関連する現象の洗い出しや従来までの統計理論の整理、プラズマの専門知識の啓蒙のために3冊の専門書を出版した。 1)Birurcation Phenomena in Plasmas (Kyushu Univ. 2002, ed. S.-I. Itoh, Y. Kawai)プラズマの分岐現象を天体・宇宙から実験室系まで広い視野で集めその執筆及び編纂を行なった。 2)Plasma and Fluid Turbulence-Theory and Modeling-(IOP(英国物理学会出版)2003, A. Yoshizawa, S.-I. Itoh, K. Itoh)プラズマと流体の現在までの乱流統計理論の方法論をまとめた。 3)トカマク概論(九州大学出版会2003,伊藤早苗、矢木雅敏共訳)高温プラズマの閉じこめに関する名著"Tokamaks"J.A. Wesson編著を邦訳した。研究展開としては、多スケールを持つ乱流の遷移理論を進め、第11回プラズマ理工学国際会議(ICPP)(シドニー)において招待講演"Statistical Nonlinear Interplay among Different Scale-length Turbulence!を行なった。またL/H理論の確率統計論の先駆けとして、論文"Probability of Statistical L/H Transition in Tokamaks"をPhys.Rev.Letts.に発表(S.-I. Itoh, K. Itoh, S. Toda, PRL 89 215001-1(2002))非線形分岐理論の確率統計理論への新しい研究展開をはかった。
