Research Abstract |
In this study, was promoted collection of spatial data, diversified analysis of the data, and digitalization of maps usable for data basis in future. The Egypt investigation group made up a base map with high accuracy by superimposing digital maps of the Statistics Bureau of Egyptian government with digitalized old maps at the early 20th Century with high precision, on which their various statistical data were accumulated. And, by showing survey data on family income at the suburbs of the greater Cairo metropolitan area, its spatial analysis was carried out by using the Geographic Information System. As a result, there were elucidated actual conditions of the migration in Egypt at the later half of the 20th Century, regional and spatial distribution where immigrants grew, socioeconomic characteristics of the immigrants, and spatial structure at an area forming the greater Cairo metropolitan area. And, here were also clarified spatial formative history of the middle lamella apartment-hous

es at a residence zone of the suburbs of Cairo and principles on family construction of the residents based on its layouts. The digitalization of the old maps on whole areas of Egypt was completed, which enabled to use for future research on modern Egyptian history as a base map. The Central Asia investigation group metrically elucidated actual condition on modification of racial consciousness, from re-analysis of the data by using the digital maps. Relationships between irrigation canal networks and landforms and its relationship with features of race distribution at the Ferghana Valley were re-examined, to find out a new knowledge based on integration of the literature history with the Geographic Information System. The China investigation group promoted an analysis on an object of nation wide migration from various statistical data. The native place distribution of residents who lived at the suburbs of towns was clarified through surveys on their family incomes. And, a theme on expansion of nationwide poverty and wealth difference could also be analyzed on micro-scale. The spatial analysis group accumulated know-hows to bring those processing, digitalization, and so on through their works, on the basis of limited data like the old maps. These results are thought to give a large contributions to future application of the Geographic Information System at the humanity society field, especially application of the Geographic Information System at areas with unprepared maps.
