Research Abstract

本海外学術研究は、学部間協定を締結している北海道大学水産学部、アラスカ大学フェアバンクス校水産・海洋学部並びにワシントン大学海洋・水産学部の3大学が中心となって、北東太平洋亜寒帯域に存在するアラスカ湾循環生態系およびベーリング海循環生態系、北西太平洋亜寒帯域に存在する西部亜寒帯循環生態系、それぞれにおける地球規模での気候変化に伴う海洋環境変化と生態系のダイナミックスを比較研究しながら明らかにすることを目的とする。
2002年夏季のおしょろ丸調査航海において、アラスカ湾西経165度線、アラスカ湾西経145度線、および南東ベーリング海において、研究計画の調査項目を実施した。本航海には北大側3名を派遣し、アラスカ大・ワシントン大から3名(うち北大3名は本研究費現地参加費を使用)および英国サザンプトン海洋研究所から1名が現地参加した。この調査の概要は以下の通りである。
・CTDによる物理環境調査、および採水による基礎生産の現場測定と衛星情報との照合を行った。特に円石藻類の調査と陸棚縁辺に形成されるベーリング海渦に注目した。
・各種プランクトンネットによるプランクトン群集構造の種組成と定量評価を行った。
・高次生物の主要な餌生物であるマイクロネクトンの定量採集を実施した(クラゲ採集用ネットなど、新しいサンプリングギアーの使用テストを実施した)。
・各種ネット採集、音響資源計測による生物種、組成、群れの特性などを可視化して定量採集技術の向上を計った。
・乗船調査前後のアメリカ寄港地セワードにおいて、3大学でシンポジウムを開催した。
その他、夏季にはカナダソーラス計画に参加する水産庁調査船開洋丸に乗船して鉄散布実験に参加してアラスカ湾における基礎生産過程における鉄の制限について調査した(本研究費現地参加費を使用)。
2003年3月には、北大にアメリカ側研究者1名を招へいし、成果の取りまとめと次年度調査計画を打ち合わせた。
