Research Abstract |
The main objective of this research project is to consider sociological theories on Publicness. In 2002, the first year of this research project, I studied the following three themes, (1)social order problem in Parsons's sociological theory, (2)communicative action and order problem in Habermas, (3)structuration theory and order problem in Giddens. In 2003, the second year of this research project, based on Rawls's "Theory of Justice", firstly, I examined the relation between ' pubiicness' and 'justice'. Secondly, I analyzed (1)how Japanese people discussed about publicness in postwar Japanese society, (2)how Japanese Feminism movement leaders discussed about the relation between women's liberation and social justice. Thirdly, I considered how to set up publicness as a social key concept in Japanese society. As a result, I acquired the following three findings. (1)Publicness as a social key concept should be taken deep root in civil society. (2)In order to realize a multicultural and liberal society ; publicness based on pluralism is very important. (3)It is necessary to make a improvement of individualism thought derived from Western Europe.
