Research Abstract |
An analysis,index for written language used as teaching-learning media has been developed Classroom interactions of four mathematics classes(two from Japanese and two from the US) video recorded (TIMSS video) are divided into five second units. Each unit is encoded from the following viewpoints. (a)whether a teacher uses oral language in communication, (b)whether a teacher uses written language in communication, (c)whether students use oral language in communication, (d)whether a teacher uses written language for helping students' oral communication, (e)whether students uses written language in communication. Findings are : Japanese teachers use blackboards twice times as American teachers ; Japanese teachers use blackboards when students speak ; the analysis index developed in this research proved to be an effective tool for international comparative research in classroom communication.
