Research Abstract |
The language is essential for the identity of race. In Ireland, Irish as mother tongue has been suppressed and English has become official language. Today we can say English is the mother tongue in Ireland. With this in mind, we examined the view on language and Irishness of James Joyce and W.B. Yeats and so on. It might be assumed that the cultural nationalism differs from the political nationalism especially on the view of Irish. The cultural nationalism thinks much of Irish, while the political nationalism does not think much of it. Moreover we have examined the issue of censorship in the time of war. E.Bowen as an Anglo-Irish writer is interesting for our project. Lastly we tried to apply discourse analysis to this theme.
