| Research Abstract |
The primeval image of the boat is an allusion to the desire to travel and every childhood shore is a shipyard full of dreams of distant voyages to the ends of our mind and our map. From the antiquity the wasters were open for us to go and communicate each other, while the land was slammed shut. The ships and seafaring ploughed endless sea-lanes and the voyage on the Mediterranean led them to cultivate the crossroads of civilizations. Carrying out intensive on-site surveys of the seaboard of the Mediterranean and study of the enormous literature concerning the ships and civilizations through time, we could confirm that the environmental superiority of the sea is to chart a course to unite, but to divide, unlike the land. We got the new view of history as a marine civilizations superseding the traditional view of modern Europe. Now we have completed the translation of the basic literature Sailing through Time : the Ship in Greek Art by E.Spahtari of our research project, with full interpretations and notes backed up by the view point of the marine history of the Mediterranean civilizations and are going to publish it.
