Research Abstract |
In this study, some measuring methods of social evaluation for road safety were proposed as well as some effective process of measures for safety based on them. And also other aim is to investigate the effects and methods of proposals for road safety measures in partnership with residents, through some social experimental approaches. Some major results of this study were shown as follows : 1.Some major problems of road safety were pointed out through the review of papers and reports concerned with recent issues for road safety. 2.An evaluation method for road safety measures according to the changeable features of occurrences of accidents was proposed. And also some ideas for both introduction of measures and evaluation methods on the arterial roads were discussed. 3.A GIS data base for the analyses and proposals of measures was developed and evaluated. 4.By using questionnaire data, the degree of recognition road safety facilities was investigated. And also it was clear that the experimen

tal approaches should be more effective to improve the lower recognition of drivers 5.We tried to realize the activity for road safety in partnership with some members of PTA. And also, some important issues such as organization, operation, process of agreement and so on, concerned with activities for road safety in the residential area. 6.It was clear that the experimental approaches based on the phased approaches should be more effective for road safety. 7.We focused on the bicycle because of more familiar vehicles in our life, and pointed out that the experimental approaches involved the interest parties should be effective to improve some problems such as accidents involved both cars and pedestrians, illegally parking, barriers for vulnerable people and so on. 8.Finally, we proposed some important issues to improve road safety, such as the process of experimental approach, essential factors for PI activity in partnership with residents and/or members of PTA, some tools for data base or survey, basic idea for evaluation of measures from view point of direct, indirect and ripple effects and so on.
