Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Performed simulations on Lanfos Development of a new version of the Geant4 simulations model of the Lanfos food radiation detector has proceeded and now includes support for large size geometry and wavelength shifting optical fibres. In connection with the Lanfos development a field trip to Fukushima was undertaken to field test the Lanfos detector system. Analysis of the radiation environment on board the International Space Station using data from the SilEye-3/Alteino particle detector is ongoing. This should yield a paper during the next fiscal year. Participated in the EUSO-TA measurement campaign in Delta, Utah. During which we performed the firs successful data acquisition of stars, air plane, and laser shots. Work started on a trigger system development for the ground based telescope in Utah and for the Space based Mini-EUSO telescope, scheduled to be launched to the ISS in 2017. The first prototype of the trigger is scheduled to be tested during the first half of FY2015.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Work has proceeded in several areas; A) Genat4 simulation development for Lanfos food radiation monitoring, B) continued work with the radiation environment on board the ISS, and C) integration into the EUSO project. A) A new version of the larger model of the Lanfos detector, aimed at larger businesses such as schools and wholesalers etc. has been developed. This model includes accurate description of the detector subsystems such as scintillating fibre position and curvature. B) For the data analysis of the Alteino radiation environment measurements previously corrupted position data for the ISS has been recovered and reintegrated into the data files. This enables us to perform analysis cuts based on the magnetic field parameters, B and L. C) Participated in the data acquisition campaign in Delta, Utah and have started work on a stand alone online trigger primarily for use with the EUSO-TA and the space borne Mini-EUSO telescope.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
During the next fiscal year (2015) the aim is to continue the development of the Geant4 simulations model. furthermore the data analysis of the ISS radiation environment will progress as well as the development of the external trigger system for the EUSO-TA and Mini-EUSO detector systems.
