| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The development of the research in general is in line with the objectives set for the second year. However, I need to point out that the study of the Japanese, Philippine and Indian cases, as proposed, had to be discarded due to time and language constraints. Also, regarding research methods, semi-structured interviews were considered more suitable to be applied due to the nature of the research. Fieldwork was conducted in Peru for 45 days, where quantitative and qualitative data was collected: (1) in-site data on physical and functional features at the block, plot and street scales of the study sites identified preliminarily in Arequipa. An average of 1,200 plots and 13 streets per site were surveyed; (2) documentary data collection in public institutions, national governmental agencies and local governments in Lima and Arequipa; and (3) 15 semi-structured interviews with local practitioners (i.e. planners, architects, civil engineers and lawyers).
Quantitative data has been already analysed spatially and statistically. Also, the analysis of qualitative data contained in policy documents, legislation and plans has been also analysed. These findings are informing the discussion and conclusion stages of the research. Once this is finalized, the researcher will analyse the other qualitative data obtained in the form of semi-structured interviews.

Reason
This qualification is given due to the fact that the data collection and the analysis of policy documents, building regulations and codes are concluded. The latter activity was foreseen to be conducted on the third year. Because of this, at this stage of the research it is possible to start writing articles for peer reviewed journals.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the third year, the development of a comprehensive framework to re-orient the current Peruvian housing policies and to guide the development of related building regulations, codes and other legal mechanisms will be developed. This framework aims at providing a holistic understanding on the multi-dimensional, multi-scalar and multi-temporal nature of the provision of public spaces in general and streetscapes in particular to planning and design practitioners. It is expected to further develop and refine these outputs through discussions and debates at different research conferences, seminars, lectures and other academic presentations.Related to the latter, this phase is also conceived as the dissemination stage of the research. The fellow will participate in two international conferences (the Latin American Studies Association Conference, May 2016 USA; and the World Planning School Conferences, July 2016, Brazil), as well as will meet other Latin Americanist scholars during the presentation of the preliminary findings at the Latin American Lab Lecture Series (Columbia University, April 2016, USA). Finally, the writing of journal articles is also part of this stage. Preliminarily, the following journals have been identified: Urban Studies; Housing Studies; International Urban Design and Urban Design.
