Research Abstract |
Pressure response of hydrogen bonds in hydrous minerals stable at the mantle conditions can be an important scientific target for understandings of elastic properties of deep earth materials. In this research project, we have developed an instrument which enables us in-situ high-pressure spectroscopic observations of hydrous materials using a diamond anvil cell. In particular, we have modified a commercially available FTIR and Raman spectra can be observed simultaneously using the same equipment. Furthermore, fluid inclusions of mantle origins, for example fluid inclusions in natural diamonds, were studied. Near infrared spectra of fluid inclusions demonstrated the residual pressure of fluid inclusions to be significantly high. Spectroscopic measurements with very high spatial resolutions were also developed.
