Research Abstract |
The conventional large screen two-dimensional displays consist of two-dimensional array of LED's, e.g. 8X8 LED array and 16X16 LED array. These LED arrays are aligned both in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction. In this study, we develop a module which consists of three-dimensional pixels to construct a large-screen three-dimensional display. The introduction of the module structure simplifies the network structure for transmitting three-dimensional image data in the large-screen three-dimensional display. 1.Construction of three-dimensional pixel module The three-dimensional pixel module consists of 8X4 three-dimensional pixels are constructed using eight LCD panels. The LCD panels are slanted for slanting the pixel array in order to display 300 different images into different horizontal directions. Eight cylindrical lenses are used as a lens array. 2.Control of the three-dimensional pixel module Each three-dimensional pixel module is controlled by a single PC. An image di

vision board is developed to control eight LCD panels by a single PC. 3.Construction of new three-dimensional pixel modules and mechanical connection New three-dimensional pixel modules are designed and constructed to reduce the crosstalk of images. The modules are also designed to enable them to be connected each other mechanically in both the horizontal and the vertical directions. The new modules consist of 8X8 three-dimensional pixels. Four modules are constructed and demonstrated their mechanical connection. 4.Reduction of data communication The amount of image data transmitted through the pixels modules is reduced by using the DCT and the image differentiations techniques which are conventionally used in JPEG/MPEG. 5.Discussion about large screen three-dimensional displays Two different types of large screen three-dimensional displays are designed used ; one is used at a sport stadium and the other is used at a street. The number of three-dimensional pixels modules, the number of control PC's, and the network structure are estimated. Less
