Research Abstract |
Our research project of this year was carried out as last year with two groups : "Research of Sources"(Haga, Taniguchi, Shirai) and "Examination of Sources"(Mukoujima, Matsumoto). Members of both groups had study meetings with other research supporters twice a month on average and, discussing the results of the both, started to enter the data in our computer. Main procedures of the two groups are as follows : "Research of Sources" group aimed to make the listings of all the words in Manyoshu 『萬葉集』 whose origins are in Chinese literature and Buddhist scriptures. This is based on our source study of all the poems in Manyoshu which had been done from the previous year. In making the data material we regarded the commentaries of the first edition and the revised edition of Manyodaishoki 『萬葉代匠記』 as most important since we came to know during our two years' research that those were extensive and inclusive. Along with identifying the volume numbers and citations of the sources in each individua

l commentary, we made the database which can be retrived from various kinds of information such as words with notes, titles of the books and citations in order to fully utilize the commentaries of Manyodaishoki. From the diachronic viewpoint, in addition, we included Kokinwakashu 『古今和歌集』 and by using the commentaries of Kokinyozaisho 『古今余材抄』, made the listings which survey some aspects of the reception of Chinese literature. Thus we have set up the research conditions for making comparison between Manyoshu and Kokinwakashu. "Examination of Sources" group gathered the research results which were investigated last year as to the special usages of Chinese characters in the titles, notes and expressions of Manyoshu and inputted their summaries into the data material. We are sure that those can be valuable guides for future researches. Furthermore, each individual member of the project published papers dealing with Chinese characters and others on the basis of research results and information which were gained in the meetings. Less
