Research Abstract

Chlanzydia pneunnoniae infection and incident coronary heart disease
Chlanydia pnewnoniae is the third species of the genus Chlamydia and frequently causes community-acquired respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia. Seroprevalence of this organism is 50-70% in Japanese adults, and most people are thought to be infected several times in their lifetime. Recent seroepiderniologic studies suggest a relationship between chronic C. pneumoniae infection and incident heart disease. The chronic C. pnewnoniae infection maybe a risk factor for coronary heart disease. This presentation will give a review of the literature.
A case-control study concerning of risk factor of cardiovascular disease in Ibaraki lural population aged 50-70 men was investigated. Relationship between C. pnewnoniae infection and atherosclerosis was observed by seroepidemiologically 104 participantswith over 1.1 mm IMT of total carotid and 1.5 mm of internal carotid(case). Compared with controls (<1.1 mm IMT of total carotid and <1.5 mm of internal carotid, n =104), case with sclerosis of the carotid had higher IgA index values significantly. Repetitive and continuous infection of the C. pnewnoniae may increase the IgA index value. This result suggests that Ce pnewnoniae infection is a risk factor of athrosclerosis.
