Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to research nursing skills of recently graduated nurses from nursing college and developing an education program of skills, applying and evaluating its efficacy. 1.Questionnai res were delivered to 2297 fresh nurses of 240 institutions among 505 hospitals. The collection rate was 37%. The matters of the survey (5 grading scales) for their own 108 nursing skills (2003.9.20〜10.30). Skills that more than 50% responders answered they are unable to do just after employment are 85 items (78.7%). Skills that more than 50% responders answered they are able to do 6 months after employment are 102 items (94.4%). 2.From the above, the expected skills are divided to three groups according to duration necessary to master them are : 3 months : 40 items ; 8months : 41 items ; 11 months : 19 items, 100 items in all. 3.A one-year skills educational program was devised. The outline of the program is as follows : (1)To help fresh nurses acquire the nursing skills within the relevant duration. (2)At the endpoint, the achievement was self-evaluated by checklist and VTR ; and (3)Besides, other methods such as in hospital intensive education and tutorial education were used to help nurses to acquire the skills. 4.The efficacy of the program was ascertained by the checklist given to 17 fresh nurses. Nursing skills to be acquired by 8 months later seemed more difficult even than those of skills to be acquired by 11 months. However, at first seemingly difficult skills are gradually conquered. VTR is useful in evaluation of achievement by OJT, self-learning and also detection of the difference of skills taught in the wards. Nursing skills just after entrance to the hospital are lower than generally expected ; hence, skills education at the college and a systematic education program for fresh nurses in the hospital should be emphasized.
