Research Abstract

The present study aimed to develop postoperative pain management standards and an education program based on these standards in order to provide a comfortable postoperative life for perioperative patients. The research project team consisted of anesthesiologists, surgeons, surgical ward nurses, and university faculty members. In order to prepare a proposal, regular meetings were held twice a month for the investigation of the contents of literature from around the world. The reliability and feasibility of the proposal were confirmed by conducting interviews on clinical nurses in surgical wards with more than 5 years of clinical experience.
As a result, the created postoperative pain management standards included the following items : I.Literature investigation regarding postoperative pain management ; II.Process of preparing standards ; III.Purpose and range of application ; IV.Definition of terms ; V.Nursing ethics in postoperative pain management ; VI.Practice of postoperative pain management ; and VII.Utilization of resources and required systems in postoperative pain management.
The education program consisted of the following items : I.Basic policy for the preparation and application of the education program ; II.Education program model ; III.Outline of the education program ; IV.Method for applying the education program ; and V.Examples for development. Furthermore, in order to evaluate the effects of the tentatively prepared education program while preparing the video teaching material required for the application of the program, the contents and methods were evaluated based on subtraction
